HOW DID YOU AND BLACKLIDGE “MEET”?
I moved to Atlanta eight years ago with the asphalt company I was working for at the time. The company went bankrupt, and I had a contact at Blacklidge who helped me get an interview. The final decision came down between two people: myself and another gentleman. Blacklidge ultimately hired the other candidate. Two years later, I received an email with just three words: “You still interested?” I agreed and this year will mark four years with Blacklidge.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT BLACKLIDGE?
My job description really includes some of everything. Right now, a lot of my time is spent working with DOTs and licensees, as well as implementing all of our UltraFuse applications. UltraFuse is a superior patented bonding agent that is stronger and longer-lasting than any other product out there. I set up the dates, correlate the trucks and materials, and make the schedules so everyone knows where to be when installing UltraFuse.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AT BLACKLIDGE?
When I started at Blacklidge, we had some sales in Georgia, but none in Tennessee or the Carolinas. Since focusing on these territories, I’ve increased the sales in this region tenfold. And that’s really just the beginning – we have some exciting growth in store!

HOW DO YOU SEE BLACKLIDGE MOVING FORWARD?
The Blacklidge company culture is moving us forward. We’re all about innovation, technology and superior customer service. Right now, we’re pioneering new ways of ordering product via email, text and phone to make it a lot easier on the customer. I’m really excited about that because streamlining the ordering process keeps my customers happy.

Another hallmark of Blacklidge is that our customers receive their materials on time. Now they even receive an email or text to let them know that the materials are on the way.

We’re also working on bringing our customers better storage with the right temperature and agitation controls. Once we have this system in place, we’ll be able to predict when the customer needs new product. For example, if we can tell that a customer needs a product in a week, we can go ahead and arrange the trucks and other details.

WHAT ARE SOME CHANGES YOU’VE SEEN IN THE ASPHALT / EMULSION INDUSTRY?
I’ve been in this industry for almost 20 years and I often wondered why there was no trackless product available. Tracking is so detrimental to the pavement. The thing is, no one was able to crack the code of trackless tack until Blacklidge, and we still have the best trackless product on the market.

The other innovation that has really changed the industry is fast-drying asphalt. Blacklidge’s UltraFuse is a game-changer that extends the life of the road.

ARE YOU PART OF ANY PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS?
Yes, I’m a member of Tack Task Force Group (VADOT), Asphalt Binder and Emulsion Task Force (TDOT), LTAP Committee, National Pavement Preservation (NPP), and several others.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
I play softball and spend time with my family – my wonderful wife of 19 years, Emily, our son, Caeleb, who attends Georgia Tech studying Mechanical Engineering, and daughter in high school, Amber. Serving with our church, especially through mission trips, is a passion of mine.
