This week our BETA lab has been under close scrutiny by the AASHTO Material’s Reference Lab (AMRL) through their onsite inspector as part of the requirement for AMRL accreditation. This process is a long and difficult one for any lab. There are over 2000 labs that undergo this process periodically and about 1800 of them do get accredited every 2 years. These 1800 accredited labs are spread all over the United States and Canada, including all the state DOT labs. Our onsite inspector ranked BETA and its people to be on the top 3 or 4 labs out of all 1800! As for us doing this for the first time, among other first time labs we were ranked 1st by a long shot! This kind of ranking is extremely rare and it is solid proof of the hard work put in by all at BETA. Not many companies have a lab equal or better than ours (only 2 or3 do) and that is out of all asphalt, concrete, soil, and metal testing labs. Since its opening day in September 2008, BETA Lab strived to be the best of the best. Little over one year later the lab achieved that goal by receiving all 5’s (on a scale of 1 to 5) in the AASHTO’s Material References Laboratory (AMRL) sample testing. Blacklidge Emulsions, Inc. is in the final phase of negotiations with GuardTop on a manufacturing licensing agreement.  GuardTop is a division of Western Emulsions and has been producing sealer since 1983.  They are based out of California and currently produce and sell six million gallons of product per year in the western United States.

GuardTop is an environmentally friendly asphalt based sealer that has a proven record of being a very competitive product in the industry when it comes to performance against other asphalt based sealers as well as coal tar.  It is the only product currently on the market that is LEED certified and is accepted by the United States Green Council.
