Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Clean, inspect and service vehicle
  • Operates equipment on vehicle to load, unload or disperse cargo/materials
  • Maintain an accurate truck log at all times in accordance with state & federal regulations
  • Keep a detailed record of material/product transported
  • Maintain radio or telephone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location
  • Assist in loading and unloading truck trailer
  • Obtain customer signature or collects payment for goods delivered and delivery charges
  • Responsible for routine fueling, lubricating, and servicing of their vehicle
  • Report any incidents or serious mechanical problems to dispatcher and/or managers
  • Safely load and unload all equipment/materials over all terrains and properly secure all loads

Skills/Competency: 

  • Must have knowledge and conduct maintenance of single and multi-rear axle trucks meeting the requirements for a Commercial Driver’s Licensing (including a general knowledge of laws, regulations and operation of the stated vehicle)
  • Efficiently perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections (correctly complete driver’s log book) of his/her vehicle and be able to explain what one inspects and why
  • Maneuver and control the vehicle in a safe fashion, which includes handling the vehicle on-site and in over-the-road situations, proper signaling, searching for hazards, controlling speed, lane positioning, matching speeds to road conditions (wet, dry, snow, or ice), and the ability to drive during the daytime or nighttime
  • Operate and drive different kinds of trucks to transport goods and materials over long distances
  • Understand air brake systems if any vehicle is equipped with the system
  • Plan trip logistics and obtained necessary documents to transport goods

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s Licensing (clean driving record)
  • Travel (often in excess of 100 miles from plant) to job sites and work outdoors
  • Follow all safety procedures for transporting hazardous materials
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Perform all of the above job functions in a safe manner in order to avoid personal injury and equipment damage
